Shhh! We are vibing to Silence.

Could silence be one of the keys to serenity?

Could silence be one of the keys to serenity?

Vibing to silence. Sounds sorta crazy doesn’t it, however when you think of what we put our nervous system through on a daily basis maybe a bit of silence is exactly what you need.

If you’d like to give it a try, consider starting small, just 30 - 40 minutes of silence at our free community Crystal Singing Bowls Sound Meditation. We are kicking off our ‘Silent’ Series on Sunday 22 August 2021. No guided meditation, no introduction, no thank you’s or reflections afterwards, only the sounds of sea in the background, nature, birds etc and the serene singing bowls.

We encourage you to be in silence from when you leave home. No radio in the car, no looking at your phone, no chatting. No distractions.

This gives your nervous system time to begin recalibrating. It no longer has to juggle being ‘on guard’, process what is being said, asked, and it can stop doing multiple tasks at once. Instead it can rest.

When you arrive please slowly and quietly set up your space, chair or yoga mat etc. Arrive in plenty of time to settle in, staying silent the whole time.

This prepares yourself and your fellow meditators for the blissful sounds of Crystal Singing Bowls being played in nature.

You’ll find your breathing will naturally deepen. Your heart rate will slow down and your field of vision will begin to open up to the full spectrum of your surroundings. So too, your other senses.

You may also be aware of your mind chatter. Things to do, thoughts of the past, present, judgments about yourself and others may all come up. See if you can observe them without ‘feeding them’. Let your thoughts, your mind, self talk, come and go like a breeze.

Paying attention instead to your surroundings, the smells, the nature sounds, the shape of clouds etc.

Deep peace and moments of ‘aha’, clarity can occur after a period of silence.

Remember when the session finishes to leave in silence and stay quietly vibing with the sounds and silence till you get home.

There will be a handout at the meditation this weekend with suggestions for ways to approach your silent meditation, a menu of approaches for you to consider, although personally our favourite is lying down relaxing in silence.

We are keen to get feedback on what happens for you after your meditation this week.

Thank you for giving yourself the opportunity to experience something different.

For more about silent meditation, look up Vipassana meditation, this is traditionally a residential meditation held over a number of days, allowing you time from distractions with a guided teacher.
