Here’s some background…. Our training in 2000 as an Aromatherapist in London was extremely thorough and took over 12 months to complete. During that time we spent many weekends training with our class in additional modalities to expand our horizons and add to our healing techniques. One weekend we were privileged to spend time under the instruction of a talented Acupuncturist who had just returned from time studying in China and working in the hospitals there. Of the many points and tips, she shared, working on the 4 Gates was the major one we’ve incorporated in our massages over the years.

The 4 Gates are traditionally an acupuncture point combination consisting of, Large Intestine 4 (Hegu), which is on the dorsum of the hand and the other point, Liver 3 (Taichong), which is on the dorsum of the foot. In traditional Chinese medicine as a combination, these points are believed to assist circulate the qi and blood throughout the body. The 4 Gates are said to maintain the free flow of qi and blood throughout our bodies. Opening all the meridians, may increase circulation, and decrease pain in the body. The 4 Gates can also be used for emotional issues when you may feel stuck in a situation and uncertain.
